Stampin' Up!

"...with great people and incredible dedication, we have achieved great things. Going into the second week being live with a new system, the number of daily shipments are exceeding our projections; this is a very talented team with a lot to be proud of."

- Hae Bolduc, Corporate Applications Director

Overview

The exclusive Stampin' Up! line of decorative rubber stamp sets and accessories for handmade cards, scrapbooking, craft projects, and home décor has been helping crafters discover and express their creativity since 1988. Stampin' Up! products are not sold in stores, but may be purchased at home parties or through a network of independent sales consultants called Stampin' Up! demonstrators. Currently, more than 40,000 demonstrators from all 50 states and Puerto Rico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom teach the art of rubber stamping and share their enthusiasm for rubber stamping, scrapbooking, and card making.

Stampin' Up! operates two state of the art facilities: an 80,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Kanab, Utah, and a 300,000-square-foot home office and distribution center in Riverton, Utah.

Business Challenge

  • Managing the flow of product through the Stampin'-Up! distribution headquarters took five separate systems
  • Stampin' Up! needed to pull together the disparate systems, allowing them the flexibility to support their operations as they continued to expand
  • ASAP was tasked to complete the implementation with zero impact to the daily operation of the warehouse

Key Technologies

  • ASAP Automation's Exacta Warehouse Control Software
  • 4,300 locations of Pick to Light
  • JD Edwards ERP system
  • Allen Bradley PLC-based control system by Bastian Controls
  • Human Machine Interface
  • Manhattan Associates ILSâ„¢ WMS

Results

  • Long hours and weekend testing made for a seamless go-live over to the new pick to light and warehouse control system.
  • ASAP reduced the number of pick to light devices by 20% with the same functionality, simplifying installation and reducing costs for Stampin' Up!
  • The pick to light area processes an average of over 3,500 orders per day while handling peaks of almost 5,200 orders per day.
